What is energy art, and is it meaningfully different from any other abstract painting? A fair question, and one I would ask too.
The difference is not in the finished object. It is in what the work was made for, which is the whole of what energy art means.
Energy art is painted for the feeling a space needs to hold, rather than for a subject or a color scheme.
A decorative painting is chosen because it works with the room. An energy painting is made because the room and the person in it needs something specific, and the painting is built toward that.
The method behind mine is Intentional Creativity art, the methodology developed by Shiloh Sophia McCloud, in which a painting is built in deliberate layers with an intention set at each one. I am certified as a teacher of it, and it is how I work whether or not a client ever hears the word.
The process runs backward from how most people imagine painting works.
The intention comes first
Before any color goes down, there is a question: what does this room need to hold? Calm. Courage. Expansion. Grief, sometimes. Rest.
Then the under-layers
Several layers go on that will largely be covered. They are not wasted. Depth in a painting comes from what sits underneath, which is why a reproduction and an original read so differently on a wall even at a distance.
Then the form
Shape, movement, where the eye lands and where it rests. By this stage the painting has begun telling me what it wants, and the job becomes listening rather than directing.
Then the finish
Metallics, texture, the final layers that respond to light. Florida light moves considerably through a day, and a painting with real surface to it changes between morning and evening rather than sitting flat.

Here is the method, and it works whether you commission anything or buy from a gallery.
Stand in the room and name what is missing. Not visually. Emotionally. Most rooms that feel wrong are missing one quality, and people can usually name it in a word once they are asked directly.
Then match the quality, not the palette.
Choosing this way produces rooms that feel considered rather than coordinated, and the difference is immediately legible to anyone who walks in.
Where a painting hangs changes what it does, and this is the part most people skip entirely.
One rule overrides all four. A painting you do not love will not work anywhere, however correct its placement. Start from what moves you and arrange around that.
Worth saying plainly, because this field attracts overclaiming, and what is sold as energy art is sometimes only a label.
A painting will not heal anything. It will not bring you money. Any artist telling you otherwise is selling something, and you should keep your hand on your wallet.
What a painting does is quieter. It gives a room a center, it carries a quality you chose deliberately, and you see it several times a day for years. Over that span, what you look at every day is not neutral, which is the entire argument, and it is enough.]
Walk into the room and write one word for what it is missing. First word, no editing.
Find three images anywhere, a magazine, a gallery, your camera roll, that carry that word.
Look at what they share. It will rarely be subject matter. Usually it is light, scale or depth, and that is the brief.
A painting made for the feeling a room needs to hold, rather than for a subject or a color scheme.
Related but not identical. Intuitive painting describes how the work is made. Energy art describes what it is made for. My work is both.
No. Choose by feeling rather than by palette and you will get a better room regardless of what you think is happening underneath.
Choose for the feeling rather than the trend. Palettes date quickly; a piece chosen because it carries calm will still carry calm in fifteen years.
Rarely, in my experience. Far more rooms suffer from art that is too small. When in doubt, go larger.
If you can name what a room is missing but not what to put in it, that is exactly where this starts. Commission a painting and tell me the word.
