A space clearing is the practice of moving stagnant energy out of a home, and it is far more ordinary than the name suggests. No robes. No shopping list.
Most of what follows you can do yourself in an afternoon, which is why I publish it rather than keeping it behind a consultation.
Why does my house feel heavy when you walk in? Walk into a room where an argument ended moments ago and you already know the answer. Nobody told you; your voice adjusted before you worked out why.
Stretch that from minutes to years and you have the premise. A home where a long illness was nursed, where a marriage quietly stopped, where three children grew up and then over eighteen months all left, those things do not evaporate because the sofa was replaced.
Some of this is genuinely energetic. Some is entirely practical: a layout built around a family that no longer lives that way, objects kept from obligation, air that has not moved in a season. Research on household environments suggests the state of a home has a measurable effect on the people living there, particularly on the person who carries it.
Which name you give it matters far less than the fact that it is still there, and you are still inside it.

Six moments where it earns its place.
First, open everything
Every window and every interior door, including closets. Twenty minutes minimum. In Florida this is easy for most of the year, and November is the best month for it.
Air that has not moved reads as neglect no matter how clean the surfaces are. Start here, because everything else works better afterward.
Second, remove one thing per room
One object you do not want to carry into the next chapter. Not a purge, a decision, repeated room by room.
Third, work the perimeter with sound
Begin at the front door and move through the house in one consistent direction, staying near the walls and working into the corners.
Use whatever you have — a bell, a chime, a singing bowl, clapping, your own voice. Corners are where sound goes flat, and they are also where stagnation gathers. Listen for the change; it is audible, and that is not mystical, it is acoustics telling you something about a room nobody has disturbed in months.
Fourth, the rooms you avoided
Do not skip them. Those are the rooms this is for, and they are the reason most clearings fail, people clear the rooms that are already fine.
Fifth, close and set
Shut the windows. Put something living in the room that felt worst at the start: flowers, a plant, a bowl of fruit. Light a candle if you want one.
Then say what the house is for now. Out loud or on paper, whichever embarrasses you less. This last step is the one people skip, and it is the one that makes the rest hold.
On its own, no. This is the honest answer and it is why some people try a clearing, feel a lift, and watch it fade within a month.
If a house is cleared and then nothing changes, same layout, same avoided room, same closet, the conditions that produced the stagnation are all still in place. It returns, reliably.
What holds is the combination. Clear it, then change what caused it. Move the bed. Empty the room. Take the boxes to the daughter who has been meaning to collect them for four years.
The clearing opens the door; the adjustments stop it swinging shut.
Plenty is sold for this and most of it is unnecessary.
Most Feng Shui cures sold for this are unnecessary. You do not need crystals, a kit, or anything branded. Windows, sound, a decision in each room and something living at the end will do nearly all of the work.
If someone is selling you an expensive object as the active ingredient, the object is not the active ingredient.
Twice a year suits most homes, plus after any significant event. More often than that and it becomes a chore rather than a threshold.
Do it yourself first. Call someone if a room resists, if you cannot get past the doorway, or the lift fades within days, there is usually something structural underneath.
A clearing after buying a property, and a clearing after a loss. Those two account for most of what I am called in for.
Opening windows, removing objects and making a decision in every room will improve a house regardless of your opinion about why.
If you clear a house and the heaviness stays, something structural is usually holding it. Book a House Whispering session and we will find out what.
